Ms. Kotomi Watanabe, a third-year undergraduate student at the Department of Environmental Sciences, received the Poster Award at the international conference GXI-ZES2025 on January 14 to 16, 2025.
The international conference GXI-ZES2025 was organized by Institute of Science Tokyo (former Tokyo Institute of Technology) to share the latest results on Green Transformation (i.e., Social transformation toward realization of a decarbonized society). During the three days of the conference, 64 oral presentations and 51 poster presentations were made, and the Poster Award was given to nine presenters who passed the screening.
The title of the award is: “Osmotic power generation by mixing freshwater and saltwater: its domestic potential analysis.” Osmotic power generation is a new renewable energy technology that produces electricity by mixing freshwater and saltwater. Ms. Kotomi Watanabe analyzed the domestic potential of osmotic power generation in Japan and proposed suitable locations for power plants and effective ways to utilize the technology.
Ms. Kotomi Watanabe made the following comments: “I would like to express my gratitude to the professors of the Department of Environmental Science and the staff of the laboratory who have always taken good care of me. Encouraged by this award, I will continue to pursue my research in environmental science.”
