Ms. Niva Sthapit (D2) received Excellent Presentation Award at the Water Environment and Technology Conference 2018 (WET2018)
?? Ms. Niva Sthapit, second-year master’s course student of Special Educational Program on River Basin Environmental Science (supervisor: Pro. Futaba Kazama, co-supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Eiji Haramoto), was awarded “Excellent Presentation Award” at Water and Environment Technology Conference 2019 (WET2019) held at Osaka University on July 13-14, 2019. The Excellent Presentation Awards were given for outstanding presentations at WET2019, where only 24 out of 245 presenters were selected for the award.
?? The title of her presentation was “Investigation of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli in different wastewaters in the Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.” In this study, the prevalence of Shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) in wastewater in the Kathmandu Valley was survey during a one-year period. STEC was detected at high concentrations in both influent and effluent of wastewater treatment plants, resulting in low reduction efficiency during wastewater treatment. This study was conducted as a part of the Science and Technology Research Partnership for Sustainable Development (SATREPS) program entitled “Hydro-microbiological Approach for Water Security in Kathmandu Valley, Nepal.”
?? Ms. Sthapit said “I am delighted to have been one of the recipients of the WET Excellent Presentation Award this year. It was a tremendous learning experience for me, as well as an opportunity to connect with numerous other researchers in my field. This award wouldn’t have been possible without the support and guidance of my senseis (Prof. Futaba Kazama and Assoc. Prof. Eiji Haramoto), seniors and friends. I look forward to continuing on this path and further exceling on the way.”
